In a thrilling comeback victory at Duke on October 18, 2025, the No. 12 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets rallied from a 17-10 deficit to defeat the Blue Devils 27-18, securing their first 7-0 start since 1966.

The game’s turning point came early when safety Omar Daniels returned a fumble 95 yards for a touchdown, setting a school record and giving Georgia Tech an early lead. “I want to thank my teammates, they made the play… I heard everybody cheering. I kept running. I knew I had to get in the end zone,” Daniels said.

That along with a blocked field goal attempt frustrated the Blue Devils who opened the game with two length of the field drives that resulted in 0 points. With the goal line fumble returned 95 yards for a scoop and score, it was basically a 17 point swing.

Despite Duke completely dominating the first half in yardage and holding a 7-7 halftime tie, Georgia Tech’s offense, led by quarterback Haynes King, ignited in the second half. King threw for 205 yards and rushed for 120 yards, including a crucial 28-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter to extend the lead.

“Nobody really panics,” King said. “Toward the end of the game, everybody almost kind of has that same goal, that same mentality that we’re going to will ourselves to win.”

Head Coach Brent Key credited the team’s endurance, saying, “I think by the fourth quarter, our guys had worn them down.” Georgia Tech scored 17 points in the final period, overcoming Duke’s early lead and sealing the win.

Duke struggled with critical red-zone errors—a fumble, a missed field goal, and a fourth-down penalty—that kept them from capitalizing on their offense’s yardage advantage. Duke Head Coach Manny Diaz acknowledged, “When they responded, they were able to take game control.”

With this victory, the Yellow Jackets improved to 7-0 and 4-0 in Atlantic Coast Conference play, their best start in over 50 years, setting the stage for a run to the ACC Championship Game. With Miami’s upset Friday night loss, Tech is the only undefeated team in the conference.

Georgia Tech will next host Syracuse in a highly anticipated homecoming game. This performance showed the resilience and talent fueling the Jackets’ historic season.

Another early noon kickoff is set for Saturday with the game on ESPN.
