Georgia Tech Hosts Georgia State For Home Opener

By Don Stone, GeorgiaTechExpress.com

I was just telling someone in the press box that, when I first started covering the Yellow Jackets, some of the students who used to help me deliver the Georgia Tech Express newspaper around campus, are now 56 years old and might have grand kids attending Tech. Yikes!

It’s always exciting to start another season, especially when you are coming off a stunning upset like last week over #10 Florida State in Dublin, Ireland.

The Jackets are favored in this one by a whopping 38 points to beat the Panthers in a blowout.  That seems hard to believe. The teams have never played each other on the football field, even though their campuses are just two miles apart.

A few players were commenting before the game that it has been difficult to prepare for a team that you really have no realistic film on

GSU is a very different team than the last time they played in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl on December 23 defeating Utah State 45-22.

Shawn Elliott, their previous head coach, abandoned the team very late in February to take an assistant coach job at South Carolina.
He was quickly replaced by Dell McGee, who was on the staff at UGA.

Many of the players from last year’s team are gone. So, there are a lot of unknowns.

We’ll see how it plays out. At any rate, just a few minutes before toe meets leather on the flats at Bobby Dodd Stadium.
