– Kara Dunn notched her first collegiate career double-double Friday night as Georgia Tech women’s basketball handled crosstown rival Georgia State in a 67-47 victory. The Yellow Jackets never trailed in the contest and led by as many as 26 points in the win. It took less than three minutes for the Jackets (2-0) to open a double-digit lead over the Panthers (0-2) as Tech raced out with 10-0 spurt and never looked back. Tech led by as many as 20 points in the first half.

Georgia Tech women’s basketball officially tips-off the season on Monday with its second-ever “Education Day” contest. Winthrop also opens its season on Monday and will look to eight newcomers to help the team finish in the top four of the Big South Conference as the team was selected to finish fourth in the preseason poll. In addition to eight newcomers, eight returners come back for the 2024-25 season.

The Yellow Jackets pushed the tempo early on and maintained control the remainder of the game. Zoe Smith made a quick impact, scoring eight of Tech’s first 16 points in the contest and led the Jackets after the first quarter with 10 points.

Behind four Yellow Jackets scoring in double figures, Georgia Tech women’s basketball handed No. 21 Oregon its first loss of the season in the Hawaii North Shore Showcase, 74-58. With two wins in Hawai’i , Georgia Tech took home the tournament trophy and improved to 6-0 on the season. Tonie Morgan was named the Tournament MVP after averaging 15.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game in the two games and seven assists.
